Thanks to state fairs sticking every food item imaginable into a deep fryer, the Fried Oreo has become a staple in fried desserts. Have you ever had one? They’re SO GOOD! So rich and soft…mmmmm. But let’s face it, frying Oreos can be a lot of work. In fact, one time I nearly burned down my kitchen trying to fry Oreos (true story). That was the last time I tried to fry my own Oreos.

So imagine my delight when I discovered that I could bake Oreos in Puff Pastry, and it tastes almost exactly like a fried Oreo! Y’all, these are SO GOOD! Plus, they aren’t as greasy as the fried version. I added some melted chocolate and crushed Oreo pieces to the top to make them look a little fancier, but these would be delicious even if you served them naked (the dessert naked, not you naked).

With it being football season, no tailgate or football watching party is complete without sweets. These would be great to serve up at your next get together! They only require a few ingredients, and they look super impressive without being difficult to make. It’s a win all around!

Oreo Stuffed Pastry Puffs

Yields: 9 pastry puffs

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry, thawed, but cold.
  • 13 Double Stuf Oreos, divided
  • Confectioners' sugar
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (I used milk chocolate, but dark chocolate would probably look better with the dark Oreos)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Whisk together the egg and a splash of water. Unfold pastry dough on a clean surface and brush both sheets with egg wash.
  3. Cut out 9 circles from each pastry sheet using a 2⅝ inch round cookie cutter. (I didn't have a round cookie cutter this size, so I just found a travel mug with a similar sized round opening and used it as my cookie cutter -- yay for being resourceful!)
  4. Place one Oreo on 9 of the pastry circles, then place another pastry circle, egg wash side down, on top of the Oreo. Pinch together the circles.
  5. Place pastry covered Oreos on the baking sheet about 3 inches apart and brush the tops with more egg wash.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, chop the remaining 4 Oreos into small pieces.
  8. Remove puffs from oven and dust with confectioners' sugar.
  9. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave on 15-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  10. Add a dollop of melted chocolate to the top center of each pastry, then drizzle more all over each one.
  11. Add some of the crushed Oreos to each chocolate dollop so they stick. Enjoy warm.
