Oreo Balls

Christmas is almost here!!! There’s so much to love about Christmas: the time with family, the classic movies, snuggling up by the fire, presents, and caroling, just to name a few. My favorite thing about Christmas is reflecting on Christ’s coming as a baby and what that really meant for God to become a man. That may seem cheesy to some of you, particularly if you don’t count yourself religious. But for me, reading the Biblical account of Jesus’ birth and what that meant for humanity–for ME–is just humbling and overwhelming.

My second favorite thing about Christmas is definitely the food. I love how the entire month of December seems like one giant feast as we skip from one party to the next, eating all manner of “party foods”, honey baked hams, smoked pork, dozens of casseroles…and of course…DESSERT! Every party is overflowing with rich brownies, cookies, cakes, candy, and sweets. I love to serve desserts that are also finger foods so people can munch on them as they stand around chatting and not having to sit down at a table with a fork and plate (who has time for forks and plates when there’s partying to do!?).

In the past, I’ve served up these awesome Cookie Dough Truffles which were a HUGE hit and everyone was popping them in their mouths like popcorn because they couldn’t get enough! So I thought I’d do something similar with these classic Oreo Balls! This recipe is definitely not new, because these treats have been around for years. But I still wanted to share it here with you in case you’ve never tried them before! They’re easy to make and so rich and delicious!

Oreo Balls

Yields: 36 balls

Oreo Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 16-oz. package Oreos
  • 1 8-oz. package cream cheese, softened (reduced fat works fine)
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 24 oz. white chocolate bark
  • 6 oz. milk chocolate chips (optional)

Directions

  1. Crush Oreos in a food processor or blender until fine.
  2. Mix together crumbled Oreos, cream cheese and powdered sugar. Roll into 1" balls and chill 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  3. Melt white chocolate bark according to package directions. Use a fork or toothpick to dip balls in chocolate and place on wax paper to dry.
  4. Optional: melt chocolate chips according to package directions, spoon into a small zip top bag and close, cut a tiny hole in the corner and drizzle the chocolate on top.

Notes

These freeze well if you want to make extra batches!

Instead of chocolate decorations, you could do Christmas sprinkles. Or, you could melt more white chocolate (instead of milk chocolate), and use red/green food coloring to make Christmas colored designs on top.
